Mary’s calling

Mary Balzac is a long time Hope Town resident. Her three daughters are
Abaconians and three of her five grandchildren are direct descendants of
Hope Town’s founder, Wyannie Malone.
Several years ago, Mary retired from Elbow Cay Properties. With time now
available to her, she attended a lecture on drawing which revived a latent
interest in art and led her to sketch while on the deck at the Coffee
House. Her first drawing was of Hope Town’s famous icon, the red and
white lighthouse. At home she found an old set of watercolors and, with a
few lessons via internet, produced a painting of the view from the coffee
house, where it was hung and soon sold.
Energized and encouraged, Mary continues to create and has tried several
mediums. Self taught, she continues to draw and paint, attends workshops
and travels for the sake of making art. At this time, she favors watercolors
as she continues to develop her own style.
